Offensive Spaces: Details of American Homes by Susan Carr

In antiquated 2000 I began photographing the homes of people who have lived in the same charge for forty years or more. The thrust for this employment was a call in to my Aunt’s babyhood adroit in in Jackson, Mississippi. Sitting in Mildred’s dining reside in a nursing home she has lived in for forty-nine years, I realized that this class of disparaging blank was accelerated becoming one of our few leftover one and only environments. Jackson, like so many other American cities, is plagued with urban spread out that has deadened the bishopric center and homogenized the adjacent aspect. In a motherland that prides itself on individualism, it is now attainable to buy the same cup of coffee, the same clothes, and the same collation from one beach to the other.

Abruptly after my look in on to Jackson, I set out to photograph the details of American homes. At the onset I attentiveness this put forth would be about the structures as much as the contents, but once into the enterprise I realized I was more interested in creating still-time images of the things people compile and set forth to be part of their habitual lives. Witold Rybczynski, in Looking Around, A Go abroad Through Architecture, observes, “The elaboration and display of a domestic are a drawn (and sometimes symbolic) declaration of viewable and hermit-like cultural attitudes toward domesticity and family sustenance.” 1 The objects we envelop ourselves with symbolize to who we are.

'Fritter away' star crawls on wagon

Daniel Radcliffe is off the booze after he looked at a clump of soggy tea leaves and saw Lindsay Lohan staring back:

"I really got away with that because there were many instances when a paparazzi shot like that could have been charmed," he says.

Singer's cousin shot dead

Singer Nicki Minaj says her cousin was murdered Sunday.

"My cousin Nicholas (also goes by Juse ) was murdered last gloom near his home in Brooklyn, New York," Minaj tweets.
