CINCINNATI - After turning heads across the outback following its Cinderella season, the Xavier men's soccer team enters a season wearing an X on its back, line for line as well as figuratively, for the first time in program history. In his inaugural season as head coach, Andy Fleming doubled the win overall from the two previous years and steered the team towards its first Atlantic 10 Championship and berth in the NCAA Event. With a core group of returnees and the addition of a heralded recruiting class, the 2011 Xavier men's soccer work together looks to make the next step forward in building a winning tradition.
The Musketeers return seven starters, including their top scorer and goalkeeper, from a work together that went 10-7-4 last season and 5-4-0 in conference play. At many times during the 2010 season things looked dismal, but that turned around as Xavier became the first No. 6 seed to win the Atlantic 10 Championship. Despite the program's fortunate and short turnaround, Fleming believes the experiences taken from the 2010 season will create an locale of success.
