    Organizers for this year’s Drayton Harbor Days holiday want participants for the prestigious George Raft Race to start building their rafts now in time for race day on August 6.

    The 11th annual George Raft Race is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, August 6,  and is modeled in part on the Devonshire River Lyn annual raft raceway that has taken place in England since the Middle Ages. The race is part of Blaine’s Drayton Harbor Days, which are scheduled for Saturday, August 6, and Sunday, August 7.

    Anyone with an intimation toward the nautical can build their own raft from only recycled materials and race from the Blaine Marina’s boat open to Gate 2 in front of the Blaine Boating Center.

    Used sailboards are not permitted in the race, but Drayton Harbor Maritime has a reduced supply of jetsom and floatsom for those individuals who don’t have their own materials. The rafts can be built to hold a amount of four people and one dog.
