Generous Scots praised as East Africa appeal passes £1m target in just one week
CELEBRITIES have lined up to offer the people of Scotland for raising over s1million for the East Africa drought appeal in under a week.
River Big apple and Rab C Nesbitt star Barbara Rafferty said: "I'm delighted, but not surprised. It's typical of Scotland.
"Ask us to do something and the reply is always, 'Aye, nae bother.'
"Even though times are substantial for many people here, the one thing we are rich in is compassion. It makes me very proud."
The huge cash milestone was passed virtuous days after the launch of the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal to help more than 10million people misery in the drought-stricken area.
By noon yesterday, Scotland had contributed more than s1.2million to the UK total of s15million.
Telly chef Defect Nairn said: "In this country, we cannot imagine what it must be like to be deprived of food and water.
"Once again, the people of Scotland have shown their leviathan compassion for those in desperate need, wherever they may be. To raise more than s1million within a few days is a fantastic achievement. It makes me very proud to be Scottish.
