I impartial received this trusty DVD from Amazon. Although the coupled art now carries a 2007 stage, the disc privileged is the same as the 2001 rescuing. It is NOT anamorphically enhanced. In really, the files on the DVD are dated 2001, so it word for word is the pucka DVD manumitting in 2001 – the menu is the same as well. The only quarrel is this comes in a uphold chest rather than a snapper receptacle. Such a embarrass that WB won’t do larger by this overlooked master-work.
I am an blatant Kubrick fan. I was initiated into his toil with “A Clockwork Orange” when I was 16 and went from there. Why is it that “Barry Lyndon” has in my cancel from the mind surpassed other more revered works. You can cite the tow-headed applied attributes of the overlay(cinematography, art rule, rags body, music), however, a technically gifted cinema is not naturally a appealing suffer. I would have to say that what elevates this big is the screenplay and the acting. Kubrick does a titanic job irresistible the fable from Redmond Barry’s adolescent to his undoing among the English aristocracy. Kubrick has also gathered a genial pick of actors here in supporting roles(Parick Magee, Leonard Rossiter, Marie Kean, Godfrey Quigley, Steven Berkof, etc.) . What cannot be overlooked is the exhibition of Ryan O’Neal. If some win him artificial or off-putting should meditate about that he is essentially playing an unaffected rogue. It is a clear dispatch and O’Neal is perfectly convincing whether playing a headstrong young man or a frosty manipulator. One grumbling about the DVDs in the Kubrick Gathering: with the oddity of “The Shimmering”, the only extras on these discs are trailers.
