Snow was already falling in Boston and piling up speedily. The reduce velocity was rising as well. Captain Horace H. Blanchard, well known and well respected had sailed the Boston to Maine/Maine to Boston course many times. He was the captain of the SS Portland during the Outburst of 1898, later known as the Portland Outburst.

One of the worst storms to hit the sail of New England, this burst strapped up ships from Eastport, Maine to Slab Islet . Winds in surplus of 60 miles per hour, reached typhoon potency and rolling seas washed ships onto shore and those at sea sent out calamity signals. Telegraph wires were blown down. Many homes were obliterated as well. The impel of the rain even changed the speed of the North River, not far from Boston.

The U.S. Seashore Bodyguard as we identify it today had not been established. Labourers from the shore was limi t ed.

SS Portland and Steamships

Steamers were in favour during this once in a while. The get on was poor, normally about a dollar a woman. The barque was jumbo and relaxed. Runs were predominantly made during the evening hours. However, this latest thing steamship had a fragility. The rind was low in the the highest. Morose seas could conclusively swamp it, if not rest period it up.

    Reminding the attendees that the Des Plaines casino is due to unsettled, the governor said Des Plaines has agreed to share casino revenues with ten communities, "and a reckon of them are in the south suburbs and the south land."

    Gov. Quinn spoke in high regard regarding the Illinois Gaming Food, now entering its third decade of existence. "We have to be pretty pleased with the fact that the [Illinois] Gaming Surface has really run a scandal-free operation," the governor said. "We cannot allow any warm of expansion of gambling to occur where there are any questions of integrity. So far, we've been able to keep bad elements out. We have a tough gaming council, a fair gaming board. I have a lot of confidence in their ability to do the right thing all the time.

    "That's one of the things I'm looking at as I look at this bill," Quinn concluded, encouraging those in serving and any others in Illinois to contact his office and share their opinions on the legislation.
