Rostand's 1897 design has been adapted by Belgian dramaturge Jo Roets and translated by Audrey Van Tuyckom. The adaptors no mistrust meant to cluster the fritz, but they have scarcely reduced it.
All the crucial cook up points are still there. Cyrano is still the swaggering notable of Paris, a soldier who will brave any man to a duel with swords or words--and always win--but who is white-livered to path any lady-in-waiting because of his Brobdingnagian snout. He's enamoured with his cousin Roxanne, but she's in taste with one of Cyrano's cadets, a rangy, blond dummy named Christian, as lucid within as he is ample without. As much to disenthral his own feelings as to purloin out his squeeze, Cyrano begins to make a note Christian's relish letters to Roxanne, simultaneously stoking her desires and stifling his own.
