WASHINGTON - Down a non-descript cobblestone alley in the Shaw neighborhood of Northwest D.C., flicker and you'll miss the gourmet sandwich shop that opened its doors last week.
It's the most unlikely of places to find a sandwich purchase, but after meeting owner Ali Bagheri, it makes sense.
"The concept (for the shop) is a little odd, so we wanted to have an odd span," he says.
The idea for SUNdeVICH -- a play on the word "sandwich" as pronounced by people from other parts of the men -- is to bring street food from around the world to an artisan sandwich shop.
"It's street comestibles in a brick and mortar shop," he says. "We wanted to have something that had a diverse range of flavors and textures and ingredients so that (customers) can see we're not at best a traditional sandwich shop."
Aside from the bread, Bagheri makes everything from scratch in small batches. From the mayo to the pickles, each sandwich features luxurious quality ingredients like lamb, skirt
