Monday night (August 1) saw Carloway facing a tricky match against Aths over at Cnoc a’ Choilich, so Back knew they had to keep the pressing on their nearest rivals with a home win in Upper Coll against a struggling Point.
From the kick off Back went disentangle for the jugular and within five minutes they had a penalty claim turned down when Murray Macleod was barged from behind by Iain Mackenzie. Back were now attacking in waves and a aim inevitably came when Kevin ‘Bloxy’ headed down to Chris Macleod who then flicked the ball over Mackay, ran through on end and coolly shot beyond Maclennan to put Back in front.
Point had no answer to the threat from Back and it was soon two as Ross Hall rose above the Locale defence to head home a Murray Macleod corner.
Point tried to responded right away but Stuart Fowler couldn’t keep his header down when Murray floated a corner into the box. They needed that goal as Back’s third was only minutes away. Andrew Macleod played in Martin Maclean as he ran through the canal and the elegant midfielder rounded Maclennan to square the ball across for Chris Macleod to tap home.
