Hedy Lamarr was an Austrian-American actress and inventor of the 1940's. Lamarr stared in numerous films for MGM in what was known as Hollywoods "Golden Age" of film. She also was a inventor along side George Antheil in creating frequency hopping spread-spectrum communication. This scientific invention was intended for the U.S. Navy. It worked by switching between 88 frequencies of radio-guided torpedoes, making it difficult for enemies to detect or jam. In 1997 the Electronic Frontier Foundation gave Lamarr an award for this scientific invention. The frequency-hopping idea serves as a basis for modern spread-spectrum communication technology, such as in todays computer systems linked to Wi-Fi network connections and wireless telephones. Lamarr died in Casselberry, Florida on January 19, 2000, at age 86.

Prosser Art Walk features daughter of famous actress
PROSSER -- Denise Loder Deluca grew up surrounded by the popularity friends of her famous mother, film legend Hedy Lamarr.
DeLuca might have inherited her mother's glamorous looks, but she didn't occupy oneself with her mother into acting.
Instead, she focused her talents on painting portraits of celebrities, as well as of the many exotic places she's visited.
DeLuca, who now lives in the Seattle extent, is the featured artist at this year's Prosser Art Walk & Wine Gala -- from 6 to 10 p.m. July 16 in downtown Prosser.
The out of doors event features more than 30 Northwest artists and several wineries, micro breweries and specialty viands caterers. Tickets are $15. The event is open to 21 and older.
As for DeLuca, what better post to study art than France.
And at age 16 she moved to Paris for six months where she was surrounded and inspired by the work of the French impressionists.
After she graduated from squeaky school she studied art at the University of California at Berkley.
