2 men rescue woman from car sinking in Bessemer pond
BESSEMER, Alabama -- As the car began to subside to the bottom of a Bessemer pond Saturday afternoon, a group of people watched in horror fearing the popsy inside would drown.
Christopher Lambert, a 30-year-old retired Marine who served in Iraq, and his friend Eric Tully, 24, were driving along Dickey Springs Method with Lambert's son when they came upon the scene and quickly pulled over.
"No one there knew how to swim, so they didn't want to get in," Lambert said. "I looked over at a lady and said, 'Guard my kid.'"
Lambert and Tully then swam through water that was about 10 to 15 feet deep to the car where a woman in her mid-50s who recently had two knee surgeries was stuck in the rider window of a four-door Lexus sedan.
"The car was sinking fast," Lambert said.
Lambert reached into the car and freed the better half's leg, which was stuck behind one of the seats, he said.
"When I pulled her leg out, she just floated out,"" Lambert said.
The two pulled her to the top of her car and had planned to pause there for firefighters, but Tully said they realized the car was sinking too fast to wait.

Highlander is a renowned story, and has an awesome cast of supporting characters. (Sean Connery; are you kidding me) Best Lambert overlay is Greystoke, the Legend of Tarzan. The less Lambert says the better.
