Gargione named Princeton coach
PRINCETON -- Joe Gargione has had as good a view as anybody of the resurgence of the Princeton High football program.
After being unanimously approved by the school board last night as the new head coach to replace Steve Everette, who handed in his resignation last month, Gargione will have an opportunity to try to sustain the success the Little Tigers have enjoyed over the last few seasons.
"Obviously, working under Steve the last five years, I had an opportunity to see the turnaround," said Gargione, who worked with the wide receivers and defensive backs in addition to assuming co-offensive coordinator duties this past season. "One of our main goals as a staff will be to continue the success we've had the last few years."
A 2004 graduate of The College of New Jersey, Gargione was a key member of the Lions' program from 1999 to 2002, excelling as a wide receiver and kick returner. He was named to the NJAC All-Conference team as a sophomore.
Gargione played with West Windsor-Plainsboro South head coach Todd Smith and assistant coach Bob Schurtz. He attended Absegami High with Schurtz, where they developed the foundation for the success the duo enjoyed at TCNJ. Gargione was one of Schurtz's favorite targets.
