  • India's gamble backfiring at Lord's was the safest bet of the first Test

And what about Sachin Tendulkar? Battling a virus he may have been, but his innings of 12 on the irrefutable day was not one for the cuttings album. Out lbw – but not given – to Stuart Broad, he was dropped at slip by Andrew Strauss before Jimmy Anderson lastly put him out of his misery. It was painful to watch.

Neither player, it will be noted, toured the Caribbean recently, where India’s successes at Act big’s – Rahul Dravid, Praveen Kumar and Ishant Sharma, plus a bit of Suresh Raina – all stayed in the sulcus. And why was that? Because they opted for a break after nearly four months’ solid cricket made up of the World Cup (unavoidable) and the IPL (you square your bed, you lie in it).

The IPL has done plenty for Indian cricket, and not just the board’s coffers. But its benefits may be limited to the shorter formats, and for all the continued waffle – other boards are shame-faced of this too – about Test cricket’s

I recently saw an incredibly farcical answer to the worst NBA player... Kobe Bryant! Arguing that Kobe is a whiner or has integrity flaws is answering the wrong question (that is like saying Pete Rose shouldn't be in the Amphitheatre because of gambling...

Would it be smart for the Nets to do what the Spurs did in '97: keep their interim coach?

If you recognize, the Spurs, coming off a 59-win season in 1995-96, crashed and burned because of injuries, fired Bob Hill after 20 games, and won that many to culminate the worst individual-season drop in wins. A front office member named Gregg Popovich

I lived in San Antonio in '97. Popovich was the Diversified Manager of the team at that time. He's the one who made the decision to fire Hill and take over himself as both GM and Head Coach. It was widely speculated in the newspaper and on talk boom

What Type of Player is More Important on Defense?

A.) "ANCHORS" the Kendrick Perkins, Dikembe Mutombo, Bill Russell, Tim Duncan types - egregious rebounders, shot blockers, and are great at defending/denying position in the post.

B.) "Cloud DEFENDERS" the Bruce Bowen,

You can't generalize. A gang needs a good mix of defenders in order to be successful. In the 2007 NBA finals, for example, Bowen did a outstanding job of shutting down LeBron James. Not because he was a better player, but because he had help. Bowen
