LAPC approves $34K for exit study
The La Crosse County Food will have the last word tonight on helping fund a $49,000 study on whether shifting Interstate 90's Take to one's heels 3 could open new riverfront land for use.
The La Crosse Area Planning Committee unanimously agreed Wednesday to entrust $34,000 for the study, leaving the county board with the final $5,000 of the funding arrangement.
The LAPC's apportionment will cover $5,000 the Onalaska Common Council last week declined to contribute. The La Crosse directors approved $10,000 Thursday.
Among those backing the study Wednesday was Onalaska Mayor Mike Giese, who said while he respected his gathering's decision, he sees a potential benefit.
"Exit 3 is the front door to both La Crosse and Onalaska," Giese popular.
The study would look at the feasibility of moving Exit 3 east to better access land along Rose Drive and the Black River for retail, residential and recreational development.
"A lot of people would agree ... a four-lane highway along a comely riverfront is not the best use," LAPC Executive Director Tom Faella said.
