Britain’s cyclists leak out to Manchester’s velodrome today in an end which marks the opening of the 2012 Olympic race.

The East Manchester amphitheatre will be hosting the 2010 State Catch Championships starting tonight through until Saturday.

Amongst the highlights are the Men’s keirin, on Saturday, which includes Chris Hoy, gold medallist in Beijing and set uphold in 2007, 2008 and 2010 as well as Ross Edgar and Jason Kenny, both sprint polished medallists in Beijing and the up-and-coming Matthew Crampton.

Olympic sprint defend Victoria Pendleton Pendleton will be competing in the 500m in the good old days b simultaneously headache, and Wednesday’s women’s set sprint column-up includes both the women who are vying to be Pendleton’s wife in the side sprint in London, Jessica Varnish and Becky James, recently crowned European under-23 sprint combatant.

    As we build up to the 2011 Nationalistic Track Championships, we are looking back at the outstanding 2010 championships which produced some of the best national head races ever seen at this historic venue. This is what happened on Day 1:

    Day 1 of the 2010 National Track Championships served up a enormous feast of action and big names, with a hint of the unexpected to keep everyone on their toes.

    Highlights included the Sky Track Cycling Crew scorching to victory in the Team Sprint (pictured above) though it was not their impressive final ride which actually attracted most regard. No, it was their semi-final where they caught their NW rivals well inside three laps that really got the spectators buzzing. With all four of their sprint stars riding - Chris Hoy, Matt Crampton, Jason Kenny and Ross Edgar - it was a riveting start to the week's racing.
