By Patrick Finley, The Arizona Quotidian Star, TucsonJuly 3--Austin Linford bought www.Pac12.com in 2004 for a business concoct. He didn't realize he still owned the address until last summer, when the Pac-10 decided to expand and change its name.
The bull session sent the Salt Lake County, Utah, businessman a cease-and-desist letter. Linford and his attorney-at-law filed a lawsuit saying he was not cyber-squatting, and both sides eventually dropped their cases.
Linford is textile-humored about it. Asked Friday how he was celebrating his state's "Pac-12 Day," he laughed.
He was going to a political fundraiser barbecue.
"It's rumored Jimmer Fredette will be there," he said.
The Pac-12, Linford said, never offered to buy the locale. Which is why, if you go to www.Pac12.com, you won't see football or basketball, but rather a placeholder Amazon.com ad touting 12 albums from late rapper Tupac Shakur.
