James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. (born October 1, 1924(1924-10-01)), was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, and the Nobel Peace laureate of 2002. Prior to becoming president, Carter served two terms in the Georgia Senate, and was the 76th Governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975. ************************* Carter's presidency saw the creation of two cabinet-level departments: the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. He established a national energy policy,removed price controls from domestic petroleum production, and advocated for less American reliance on foreign oil sources. He bolstered the Social Security system by introducing a staggered increase in the payroll tax. In foreign affairs, Carter pursued the Camp David Accords, the Panama Canal Treaties and the second round of SALT. He explicitly identified the support of basic human rights as a critical component of American foreign policy.The final year of his term was dominated by the Iran hostage crisis, during which the United States struggled to rescue diplomats and American citizens held hostage in Tehran. VERONA Anne Jeanette (Padgett) Sanderson, 85, woman, of James Earl Sanderson of 203 Skyview Circle, Verona, died Friday, July 15, 2011, at her dwelling-place.
She was born June 12, 1926, in Lynchburg, a daughter, of the late Arthur McDaniel and Katherine (Seay) Padgett.
Late to retirement, Mrs. Sanderson was employed as a lab tech with Merck. She later worked at Blue Ridge Community College and for the Virginia Haunt Extension Service. She was a member of the Verona Women's Club Extension Homemakers.
She graduated from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia with a B.S. in mathematics and information.
Mrs. Sanderson was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, where she was financial secretary for seven years, an strenuous member of her Sunday school class and enjoyed working with the flower committee for many years.
In over to her husband, family members include two daughters, Cathy Sanderson Dickens of Richmond and Claire Sanderson Kersh of Williamsburg; a pal and sister-in-law, Henry Arthur and Margaret Padgett of Cedar Hills, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Lindsay Kersh, Blair Kersh, Cameron Kersh, Bailey Kersh, Christopher Dickens, Victoria Dickens and Ariana Dickens.

It has been organized as a chronological record to facilitate the presentation of the years' events. It is based solely on statements made by or attributed to Mr. Ray; it does not rely upon or cite other origin material, or evidence the Committee has uncovered.
