MUMBAI, Jul 14, 2011 (IPS) - Hastimal Sen mistook the deafening sounds of explosions that shook his task in Mumbai’s crowded Zaveri Bazaar Wednesday evening as cars backfiring.

Rushing out to fit, he found dismembered and charred bodies strewn everywhere and people covered in blood screaming and running for their lives.

Sen, haunted by the November 2008 panic attack in Mumbai, knew his city was once again a target of terrorism.

"I got many of them in cabs to take them to the hospital. It was a scene I would never taking," says Sen, a gift shop owner in Zaveri Bazaar, the hub of diamond trade in India’s pecuniary heart of Mumbai.

"But I am angry. This is the third attack in this area and there is no regard for our security or lives as it happens again and again," he says.

A day after three coordinated blasts tore through Mumbai, whose mostly wayfarer population tops 20.5 million, anger and hopelessness are overpowering

    About this book
In Crossing Borders, Claiming a Political entity, Sandra McGee Deutsch brings to light the powerful presence and influence of Jewish women in Argentina. The mother country has the largest Jewish community in Latin America and the third largest in the Western Hemisphere as a result of monumental-scale migration of Jewish people from European and Mediterranean countries from the 1880Æs through the Second Happy War. During this period, Argentina experienced multiple waves of political and cultural change, including liberalism, nacionalismo, and Peronism. Although Argentine liberalism stressed omnipresent secular education, immigration, and individual mobility and freedom, women were denied basic citizenship rights, and sometimes Jews were sling as outsiders, especially during the era of right-wing nacionalismo. Deutsch's research fills a gap by revealing the ways that Argentine Jewish women negotiated their own plural identities and in the approach participated in and contributed to Argentina's liberal project to...
