Ruby Dee Ossie Davis Sweatshirt

Three years after they met, Ossie proposed to Ruby by sending a telegram to her from Chicago. During one of their days off (a Thursday) from rehearsals, Ruby and Ossie rode the bus to Jersey City, New Jersey and were married on December 9, 1948 by a Baptist preacher.
Ruby and Ossie didn't have a big ceremony, and there was no wedding gown, no church service, and no pictures. They were married in New Jersey because there was no waiting period there. Ossie's brother Willie and Ruby's sister LaVerne were witnesses for their wedding. Ruby wore a brown suit.

The NBAF attempts to profitably the balance this year by presenting a new program Thursday night in Symphony Hall, "Interpretations: Awful Visual Art – Past, Present and Future." It's the first of intended annual celebrations honoring visual artists in a splendour that borrows a little bit of performance sheen by pairing live and recorded musical segments with off the target-screen art images.
The first "Interpretations" pays tribute to six master artists -- Elizabeth Catlett, Thornton Dial, David Driskell, Samella Lewis, Richard Mayhew and Betye Saar -- and also celebrates the centennial of Romare Bearden's creation.
"The festival is hell-bent on saying thank you to so many of the artists who are our elders, who have worked so hard to lay the cornerstone when there was nothing there before they came," NBAF director of artistic programming Leatrice Ellzy said.
In fact, age was a serious regard in narrowing down the first group of honorees, Ellzy acknowledged. All of the artists are in their 80s except for Catlett, 96 and now unable to excursion from her home in Mexico.

It apparently had nothing to do with her throw-away role in "American Gangster" - all the pre-Oscar awards have gone to Amy Ryan or Cate Blanchett.
There are only two reasonable explanations for Ruby Dee's upset win tonight at
I deem it's bcoz she's old. I mean, she is 83 y.o now and she has been in the movie industry forever. I guess those actors just wanna honor her for her whole fullness of work rather than for her performance in American Gangster.
