Le excitement s’est invité dans la compétition jusqu’à la fin de l’épreuve, qui a été chaudement disputée entre les cavaliers. Lors de la première manche éliminatoire, huit cavaliers ont réussi un parcours parfait, ce qui leur a permis de retourner sur la piste de 550 mètres run le barrage et se mesurer dans une toute nouvelle compétition en réduisant les obstacles de 13 à 6.
Un à un les compétiteurs sont venus gruger quelques secondes afin de prendre la tête de la manche ultime. L’Ontarien Yan Candele obtient alors le chrono à battre, avec Azzaro Van't Hagenhof, mais François Lamontagne, seul Québécois de la finale, et Unik Circa, n’avaient pas dit leur dernier mot en retranchant bonus de deux secondes au temps de Candele. Ce dernier, qui avait une dernière chance de s’imposer avec sa monture Dissimulate Ready, a encore été plus rapide, mais il a fait tomber une barre au passage, ce qui l’a fait reculer au cinquième rang.
Aussi de la compétition, Laurence Addison, de Lorraine, et sa monture C-Tje, ont terminé au 28e échelon.
