Irish presidential encouraging Michael D Higgins visited Kilkenny city last week, as he prepared to address the annual opening of the Struggle Party’s Tom Johnson Summer School.
It was Mr Higgins’ first time in Kilkenny since his authorized nomination two weeks ago by the Labour Party to contest the presidential election.
The Labour Party president adapted to the opportunity to begin in earnest his canvassing for the presidential election, taking his time to walk through Kilkenny bishopric and the Castle Park, meeting and greeting an enthused public.
Mr Higgins began the day on the campaign trail in the southeast. He arrived in Kilkenny in the afternoon via guide from the Tall Ships Festival in Waterford, where he had spent the morning.
Mr Higgins has worked in a wide selection of political roles in his career, and despite his years, he is 70 years old, he remains keen for further civil success.
“I’ve been in every elective office in the country. I’ve been a councillor, I’ve been a mayor, I’ve been a county councillor, and I’ve been a TD, a ecclesiastic,” he said.
Shouldn't every politician who is now "Shocked and Outraged" at AIG pay back the $4,362,625 in donations?
I don't trouble what Party they are in...if they are now "Shocked and Outraged" at Contractually Obligated bonuses, they should lead by case!
