Columbo tuvo varias idas y vueltas.

    About this book
Since his end in 1989, John Cassavettes has become increasingly renowned as a cinematic hero--a renegade loner who fought the Hollywood system, steering his own artistic course in a career spanning thirty years. Having already established himself as an actor, he struck out as a filmmaker in 1959 with Shadows, and proceeded to construct a formidable body of work, including such classics as Faces, Woman Under the Influence, The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, and Gloria. In Cassavettes on Cassavettes, Ray Carney presents the gigantic director in his own words--frank, uncompromising, humane, and passionate about life and art. Ray Carney is Professor of Mist and American Studies and Chairman of the Film Studies Program at Boston University. He is the author of over ten books, including the critically acclaimed The Films of John Cassavetes. Since his finish in 1989, John Cassavettes has become increasingly renowned as a cinematic hero—a renegade loner who fought the Hollywood system, steering his...

    About this book
The Films of John Cassavetes: Pragmatism, Modernism, and the Movies is the first record to tell in detail the story of a maverick filmmaker who worked outside the studio system. Providing extended crucial discussion on six of his most important films (Shadows, Faces, Minnie and Moskowitz, A Woman Under the Influence, The Stroke of luck of a Chinese Bookie, and Love Streams), Ray Carney argues that Cassavetes' work is a distinctly life-affirming pattern of modernist expression that is at odds with the world-denying modernism of many of the most important art works produced in this century. Cassavetes is revealed to be a sincerely thoughtful and self-aware filmmaker and a deeply philosophical thinker, whose work takes its state in the American tradition along with the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson and William James. The six films treated here become apparent as expressive interpretations of the bewildering challenges in contemporary American cultural experience.
