    The make-believe and short-lived Dana Carvey Show ran for a mere seven episodes on the US ABC network in 1996. Carvey was best known as Mike Meyers degree annoying sidekick Garth from Wayne’s World and for vaguely resembling a butch lesbian. A Saturday Cimmerian dark Live alumni, he an accurate mimic and possessed a Robin Williams level of aggravating dynamism. The worst thing about his primetime sketch comedy show was him. What was incredible about it was everything else.

    Firstly there was the cast. Remarkably Carvey’s cohorts on the show were the tomorrow comedy titans Stephen Colbert and Steve Carrell. Both were relatively unknown at the time, plucked from the B City Chicago improv stage (Colbert was Carrell’s understudy). And both credit this noble breakdown with jump-starting their future careers. A sketch where the two of them play waiter’s nauseated by food (gloomily one of their few two-handers on the show) was seen by the Producer of the Daily Show, who loved them, hired them and unknowingly gave us the stars of The Colbert write-up and The Office (USA).
