'Quick Draw' event returns to Los Olivos
Utter the proverb “quick draw” a hundred years ago in a small western community and people would have associated it with two cowboys and their pistols dueling in the centre of the road.
This weekend the phrase describes the scene Saturday in downtown Los Olivos where more than 20 artists got together to evoke, paint and sculpt with a one-hour time limit.
Hundreds of spectators gathered at the 25th annual Discerning Draw and Art Auction to watch the furious work that began at 11 a.m. sharp. People observing the take care of cheered on their favorite artists.
“We have been wanting to come here for years and finally got up to the Valley today to wary of the artists,” said Santa Barbara resident Gail Eckert who attended the Brilliant Draw with her husband Barry. “I am excited to see the process from beginning to end in such a short time.”
Artists included Vicki Andersen, Betty and Howard Carr, Jim Farnum, Julie Fish, Sheryl Knight, Gwen Cates and others who tested their skills by creating works of art within one hour.
