  • Photos: U.S. wins two bronzes at World Hip Hop Dance Championships

The Cinderella plot outline of our hometown dance crew The Prodigy came to an end during the World Hip Hop Dance Championships semifinals, but the newly crowned USA Hip Hop Sashay champions already plan to defend their title next year. Yesterday, they performed their winning dance moves on KTNV Avenue 13.

The 10th annual finals moved from Red Rock Resort to Orleans Arena for Sunday’s finals, where a couple of worldwide dancers from 37 countries fought it out for the gold, silver and bronze medals before a frenzied audience of more than 5,000 fans and 2,000 competitors, the largest convocation to date for a street dance event.

It is truly astounding to watch at the finals crews of five to eight dancers with their stunning agility, artistry and athleticism. It’s remarkable choreographed precision and yet wonderfully fluid.

U.S. dance crews won two bronze medals, while the praise went to New Zealand, which proved an unstoppable force in winning three gold medals and two silver medals for their gorgeous displays. New Zealand’s Royal Family, comprised of members of ReQuest and Sorority, captured the gold medal in the new MegaCrews Group for 15 to 40 dancers.
