1st Sgt. Robert N. Barton, 35, of Roxie, Forgo., died June 7 in Konar, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his instrument with an improvised volatile appliance. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Discipline, 1st Brigade War Band, 101st Airborne Part (Air Mugging), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Man Arrested in Police Impersonation Scam
Tampa Protect have arrested and charged a Tampa man who they say posed as a police officer and attempted to sell seized attribute.
Police received a tip this week from the owner of Barton’s Tree Service at 610 E. Zack St. The business holder, Robert Barton, said he received a telephone call from a man who identified himself as a Tampa Police detective.
According to police, the disbelieve, Michael Bellamy, of 7908 Allamanda Ave., told Barton he worked for a special police squad that recently seized a substantial amount of tree-cutting equipment. Bellamy offered to sell the equipment to Barton for $20,000 – well below fair Stock Exchange value, police said.
According to police, Bellamy, 21, stipulated that before the transaction could take put, Barton needed to rent a limousine for the chief of police to take underprivileged children on an outing. Bellamy accepted a exchange payment instead of the limousine service, according to police.
Police said Bellamy arranged to forgather the victim at the Orient Road Jail on Tuesday. An undercover detective met Bellamy at the jail, and he was arrested without fracas. According to police, Bellamy admitted to the crime and to other schemes.

Robert Childers Barton (4 March 1881 - 10 August 1975) was an Irish barrister, soldier, statesman and farmer who participated in the negotiations leading up to the signature of the Anglo-Irish Contract. His father was Charles William Barton and his mother was Agnes Childers. His wife was Rachel Warren of Boston, daughter of Fiske Warren. His first cousin and taciturn friend was Robert Erskine Childers. He was born in County Wicklow into a wealthy Irish Protestant dismount-owning family; namely of Glendalough House. Educated in England at Rugby and Oxford, he became an officer in the Dublin Fusiliers on the outbreak of the First Sphere War. He was stationed in Dublin during the 1916 Easter Rising and resigned his commission in protest at the heavy-handed British domination suppression of the revolt. He then joined the Republican movement. |
