Toms River Spot League knocked out of tournament by Holbrook
Toms River Little League’s hopes for back to back visits to Williamsport and the Mean League World Series were thwarted tonight by the Holbrook Little League All-Stars in Jackson. For Toms River, the American All-Important team was the last remaining team from the two leagues still competing in the district 18 tournament.
It was a back and forth struggle of the bats at the Holbrook Little League complex in Jackson today to see who would advance to play Cube Little League this Saturday in the District 18 Championship game. It started off like so many Toms River American games this match with a leadoff homer run by Toms River’s Cameron Dineen. In the bottom of the inning, Holbrook called and raised Toms River’s inning with a take the lead off walk by Joe Santanello. Ryan Van Wickle followed with a base hit. After stealing second base, Van Wickle scored on a replica by Brennen Hogan, putting Holbrook up 2-1 after the first inning.
