New Austin/Travis County health chief says he wants to share more data with public

Carlos Rivera, chief of the Hartford Well-being and Human Services Department in Connecticut for the past 4½ years, took over Monday as chairman of the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department.
Rivera replaces Shannon Jones III, who has run the domain on an interim basis since Director David Lurie retired on Jan. 31 after more than 13 years. Jones goes back to being pal with health director.
"We need to do a better job of listening to the community," Rivera, 44, said Monday. He said he plans to be perceivable at forums and other events where he can hear from local residents and share health information.
