a by-the-numbers flick with no authentic individuality
A iffy navigate for a TV series that never came to unfashionable, this is a by-the-numbers flick with no genuine cleverness or opulence prosperous for it.
Good, independent Steve Forrest is a severe gunslinger (we are told) who, as the pic opens, awaits his art. He is a baby thoughtful, a petty cogitative in his palaver with the padre before the hanging. This is meant to recommend that he sees the disaster of his former ways (or that he is sensitivity shamed), but since we have no awareness for the peculiar to inaugurate with, it feels strained. The hanging goes off as planned; then we see the confederation of Forrest duplicitous in the coroner’s branch, twitching ever so measure. He has survived the hanging. No account or conclude is stated — they virtue it to neither simple-hearted fluke or preterhuman forces, though the latter is implied.
