  • VIDEO: Cooling Off At Annual Ice Cream Festival

President Ronald Reagan dedicated July a heyday to celebrate ice cream and designated the third Sunday of the month as "National Ice Cream Day." In keeping with the fresh president's wishes, people flocked to Washington Street in Toms River Saturday to signify one's opinion on the Best Ice Cream in New Jersey.

The ninth Annual New Jersey State Ice Cream festival featured 80 vendors as well as rides, inflatable tents, district organizations, and arts and crafts for children including face painting and henna tattoos.

All attendees voted on two categories: subject and local vendors. There were 10 ice cream vendors, with their special flavors, and 12 judges gauging suggestion, taste, texture, and color.

"Everyone wanted our ice cream and at one point, there were 40 to 50 people waiting in job," said Ray Malaspina, an employee at Hoffman's Ice Cream in Point Pleasant Beach. "We completely sold out of Coffee Oreo."

Jake Spaans of Attend to, and Abraham and Joyce Abboudi of Oakhurst, said their favorites were a tie between Mint Chocolate Chip from ShopRite and the Blueberry flavor from Kemp's.

Prime Jake Lamotta vs Arthur Abraham @ 160, who wins?

Wow, renowned match up, somehow I think Arthur would have his hands full, as hard as Abraham hits, LaMotta's chin would have been equal to the business. The question would be how Abraham reacted to LaMotta's pressure. This one would have been a war

    Lamotta

    About this book
In 1904, New York nuns brought forty Irish orphans to a withdrawn Arizona mining camp, to be placed with Catholic families. The Catholic families were Mexican, as was the number of the population. Soon the town's Anglos, furious at this "interracial" transgression, formed a vigilante unit that kidnapped the children and nearly lynched the nuns and the local priest. The Catholic Church sued to get its wards back, but all the courts, including the U.S. Masterful Court, ruled in favor of the vigilantes. The Great Arizona Orphan Abduction tells this distressing and dramatic tale to illuminate the creation of racial boundaries along the Mexican border. Clifton/Morenci, Arizona, was a "free West" boomtown, where the mines and smelters pulled in thousands of Mexican immigrant workers. Folk walls hardened as the mines became big business and whiteness became a marker of superiority. These already volatile race and caste relations produced passions that erupted in the "orphan incident." To the Anglos...

    About this book
Organized in January 1941, only just as the United States was building up military forces for its inevitable entry into World War II, the 57th Fighter Class was the first USAAF fighter unit to go into action in North Africa. It went on to establish a number of other "firsts" during its venerable combat history in this theater. Flying P-40 Warhawks, the pilots of the 57th entered combat in August 1942 and fought throughout the finishing Allied advance from El Alamein through the Axis surrender in Tunisia, the capture of Sicily and the invasion of Italy. Converting to the P-47D Thunderbolt in late 1943, the 57th continued pounding the retreating Axis forces in Italy until the end of the war in Europe. The 57th Fighter Circle produced a number of aces during the war, and was also recognized for its pioneering achievements in the fighter-bomber role.
