Former Vols being inducted into the Greater Knoxville Block Sports Hall of Fame is nothing new. But this year’s group will resonate as much as ever with Tennessee fans.
The July 28 inductees involve Reggie Cobb, Heath Shuler and Scott Galyon. They weren’t just outstanding players. They played noteworthy roles in a significant era of UT football.
And they remind you how far second-year coach Derek Dooley has to go in rebuilding the program.
The modern era of UT football peaked with the 1998 chauvinistic championship. Yet the groundwork for that championship was laid in the late 1980s.
Coach Phillip Fulmer won a nationalist title by upgrading UT’s defense.
The Vols already were recruiting the best offensive players in the country under drill Johnny Majors.
The wealth of offensive talent — including Cobb in particular — made the 1987 enliven a turning point of sorts for UT football. The Vols went 10-2-1 and finished 14th nationally.

The first and third answers are improper.
j = A/4 + 1

11 = A/4

About this book In this potent, epic biography, David McCullough unfolds the adventurous life-journey of John Adams, the beautiful, fiercely independent, often irascible, always honest Yankee patriot -- "the colossus of independence," as Thomas Jefferson called him -- who spared nothing in his zeal for the American Revolt; who rose to become the second President of the United States and saved the country from blundering into an unnecessary war; who was intellectual beyond all but a few and regarded by some as "out of his senses"; and whose marriage to the wise and valiant Abigail Adams is one of the moving love stories in American biography.Like his masterly, Pulitzer Prize-winning biography Truman, David McCullough's John Adams has the arc and vitality of a great novel. It is both a riveting portrait of an abundantly human man and a vivid evocation of his at intervals, much of it drawn from an outstanding collection of Adams family letters and diaries. In particular, the more than one thousand surviving letters... |

John Adams: Party of One |
|
About this book An sharp examination of a paradoxical U.S. president.John Adams was an undiplomatic diplomat and an impolitic politician--a fierce seditious yet a detached and reluctant leader of the nation he helped to found. Few American public figures have ever been more devoted to doing the reason thing, or more contemptuous of doing the merely popular thing. Yet his Yankee-bred fixation with upright propriety and fiscal conservatism never stood in the way of his doing what was necessary. Adams hated debt, but as minister to the Netherlands during the Rebellion, he was America's premier junk-bond salesman. And though raised a traditional Massachusetts Congregationalist, Adams was advantageous in bringing about the consecration of the first American Episcopal bishops. He was a warm and magnanimous friend and, on occasion, a man who fully vindicated the illustrious judgment of a rival he detested. Adams, said Benjamin Franklin, "means well for his country, is always an honest man, often a percipient one, but,... |
