As I saw this screen and Midnight Fixed again recently, I whim about Stanley Weintraub’s post Appease Evensong in which he discusses a compendious spell earlier to Christmas in 1914, on the battlefields of Flanders, when German and British soldiers spontaneously agreed to reveal a interlude and check fighting, thereby defying their commanding officers. They and their five associates are in Belgium during the winter of 1944 when they eye some R&R in the 10th century mansion of Tally Henri Tixier and his helpmate, Countess Therese. The Total is ineffectual and wishing for for his woman to beget a manly successor. Falconer is an unmitigated applicant to gain the Total order his objective. Meanwhile, the war in Europe continues, of certainly, but the palace keeps them utilitarian from its dangers and deprivations.

The only one of those I've assume from is Sherlock Holmes, but I have to say: read that series. The Sherlock Holmes stories are some of my all-time favorites. He's a ageless character for a reason.
