(I'd contend persuade THE funniest, but that's for another lodgings and stretch), and harder yet to hold that it somehow weaseled its way onto 1,600+ screens this weekend. But here it is, as witless and gauche as anything 2008 has offered up to dated, and in a year where the stare duo that is Friedberg and Seltzer has shat out not one, but two similarly bad offerings, that's saying a lot.
In this story being spun by an elsewhere-minded grandfather (Leslie Nielsen, appearing in one of two roles) at an all-American cookout, our Scrooge surrogate is Michael Malone (Kevin Farley), a loose-and-then-some filmmaker iniquitous for his documentaries, with the most latest screed being titled "Die You American Pigs!". To a match up of terrorists (led by Robert Davi), he seems like the standard applicant to keep from them restore their Taliban recruitment video; to Malone, they seem like the consummate time for him to absolutely unobstructed a legitimize trait and be entitled to some property regards, in pique of his going round contest to end the Fourth of July. Thus it's up to the ghosts of George Washington, George Patton and John F. Kennedy (played by Jon Voight, Kelsey Grammer and Chriss Anglin, each to each) to set Malone on the someone's own procedure to patriotism -- a walk that can't keep from but end at a boonies music concert being held (for the troops, cancel from the mind you) on Liberty Day.

Veterans return to struggles
U.S. Army Spc. Jeremiah Johnson, 21, received a exemplar's welcome as he stepped into the terminal early Friday afternoon at Rick Husband Amarillo Oecumenical Airport. A throng of family, friends and America Supports You Texas members were there to meet him.
"It was a big catch unawares," Johnson said of the welcome. "I was like, 'Oh, wow.' I couldn't help but smile."
Johnson said Friday significant two years to the day since he enlisted in the Army with his brother, Tony Bledsoe, 27, an Army corporal serving in Baghdad. Johnson played out the last 12 months in Tikrit, Iraq.
"It's a big weight off my shoulders to actually be home," Johnson said.
The metamorphosis from military to civilian life can prove challenging for war veterans. A May survey conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor shows a federal unemployment rate of up to 30 percent among male Iraq and Afghanistan veterans ages 18 to 34.
That turbulent percentage has a number of possible contributing factors, said Rita Sandoval, an Amarillo Veterans Affairs Trim Care System social worker. Those factors include a slow economy, difficulty translating military quickness sets to the civilian work force and the physical and mental challenges war can create.
